Joseph "J" Cantu

J & J Hip Hop Dance Company

Owner & Instructor & Choreographer

Joseph R. Cantu has been dancing since he was 8 years old. He took after school Hip Hop Dance classes in elementary school, and also took formal Hip Hop Dance Classes in Austin, Texas for several years.

Joseph worked with at risk youth in his late teenage years and helped the group of teen dancers choreograph their talents for hip hop and breaking into a dance crew. Joseph along with the dance crew inspired countless communities in and out of Colorado. This dance crew still trains today for performances and travels on their inspirational outreach tours. Joseph takes his dance inspiration from movies like, You Got Served, Stomp The Yard, Step Up Movies and more. He has taken additional training through workshops with his fellow dance friends like “Fyness” B.O.B. tour dancer, “Ki Sinacori”, American Ninja Warrior Finalist, of Urban Acrobatics, Denver, and others who are extraordinary BBoys, Animators, Krumpers, Freestylers, and amazing Hip Hop Dancers. Joseph has conducted hip hop classes throughout Colorado and instructed at Turning Pointe School of Dance, and Colorado Music & Dance Studios. Over the past few years he was asked to feature his choreography and dancers at the Colorado Dance Ballroom Classic, Downtown Denver Ballet Academy, Heaven Fest Hip Hop Stage, Harlem Globetrotters, and Denver Nuggets. Joseph was asked to join, and was accepted, into the Colorado Dance Alliance, or CDA. In 2013, he was selected for a spot to choreograph and train the Kia Hamstars for their 2013 Colorado Tour. Joseph directed and choreographed music videos for the Hamstars, along with strike out dance videos for the 2013 Sky Sox Games, commercials, special TV appearances and many additional public performances.

Joseph’s passion for his dance company is to inspire as many dancers as possible to be humbly confident, strong, passionate, motivational, and extraordinary in their skill. In return, his students can accomplish all their dreams but also know how to inspire many people around them while they do it.

“We are building legendary dancers, with legendary hearts for life and people.” – Joseph C.
